 abstract={Starting with Bachelard’s poetry of the space and Foucault’s concept of heterotopia, the following work aims to investigate the several spaces present in the fiction The year of the death of Ricardo Reis by the Portuguese writer José Saramago. These spaces are necessary to better understand the concept of public and private dimension of Ricardo Reis’ living, the Pessoan heteronym who becomes real by Saramago in a city of Lissabon quite unreal because of the dark clouds overhanging it as a result of the tragic political changes that have affected Europe in 1936.},
